Hello,
I have absolutely the least possible knowledge. I have downloaded apache2.2 on my windows xp and intend using as personal home web server.

What I have done in brief.
Registerd free with no-ip.com (xyz.serveftp.com) and DUV ver2.2.1 is running to update my dynamic ip address.

Freinds are able to access the folders and download the files, I have set in the Document root (F:/web). There are no html files. only my zipped files. They view as index of: and those files are listed.

Listen is 80

I have just purchased ApacheConf and Htpasswd. I need help in using both.

My doubts listed below.
With the above type of set up will ApacheConf or Htpasswd work?
I had tried to set passwd to a particular file but the folder became invisible as soon as .htaccess file was placed in that folder, so how to make the folder visible and make the browser ask for username and passwd?

For both apacheConf and Htpasswd to work----
Do I need to have a static IP ?
Do I need to have my own paid domain name ?
Do I need to have it as designed web pages ?
Can I not set any folder as document root on my Hard disk to let my friends access my music and videos, and set passwds for the restricted files or folders.

Any simple step by step guidance is most welcome. I have looked into many web pages it is too technical.

Hence I bought Htpaswwd and apcaeConf thinking it will be simpler.

Thanks for reading thru till here and the patience shown.
Please advise.

As I've understood, your Apache server works and your friends can access to your server...

It means that all works fine Wink
What are your problems with Apache?
Simply create html files and place their in F:/Web folder.
